Death came knocking today

not at my door, but anothers

taken away from a young family

still young, but drawn away

too soon

and others will gather

commiserate, rememeber together

mourn together

but I am not among them

not invited, I don’t belong

nor should I belong

it isn’t about ME, the everpresent self

horrid, ugly, repressed.

To be kind, selfless

I burry my sorrow

shoulder it alone, for now

so as not to inflict pain on others.

Andra was a friend of mine, but not a close friend. A brilliant cellist, a mother to two young boys, she will be very missed. She fought cancers for nearly a decade. I believe her mother died of cancer when very young too. So very sad.
